Abortion
Abortion is one of the most contentious and difficult topics in our world. Many of those on the right say we need to protect every fetus and many of those on the left say that a woman should have the right to control her own body.
The best way to make sure that fewer abortions happen is for the woman to use birth control and the man to use a condom. These precautions will eliminate most unwanted pregnancies.
We need to remember that the unborn baby has its own body and is not actually part of the woman's body. The woman's body nourishes the baby.
We should think of the developing baby for not just what it is at the time but for what it will become. In the absence of an abortion the unborn baby will become a real live human. If someone kills a pregnant woman they are charged with 2 counts of murder. Why then should it be OK when the mother kills the unborn baby?
Contraception isn't the same because it just makes a pregnancy less probable. It doesn't kill a developing baby.
The mother's life should be considered to be just as precious as the unborn baby. When a baby has only a 50 percent chance of survival and the mother will only survive with an abortion then the abortion should clearly be done to save the life of the mother.
The question then becomes what should the laws be regarding abortion? Some people think that forcing a mother to carry a pregnancy to term in the cases of rape and incest is worse than killing the developing baby and some people believe the opposite. Since there is such disagreement it seems to me that we should let the woman decide what she believes is best.
