We have the best government money can buy is my father's joke about how we finance political campaigns.  We should have public financing of all campaigns so representatives will only be beholden to their constituents and not to corporations or individuals who give them money. 

 

In such a system each candidate for a given office who qualified for the ballot would receive an equal amount of money to use for their campaign.  Money could be raised by taxing everyone.  People and corporations that used to donate to campaigns would end up paying less than under the current campaign finance system and people who didn't donate would end up paying more.   A new system such as this would truly help democracy.
