Immunizations

Immunizations represent a fantastic way of preventing diseases.  There are many immunizations that are routinely given to children as well as various ones for adults.  You can consult the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) web site or web sites of insurance plans such as Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) for specific vaccine recommendations.  In general immunizations are safe and effective but you should consult with your doctor or child's doctor to make sure there are no reasons for withholding a specific immunization.  In order to get an immunization make sure the benefits outweigh the risks.

By getting immunized you protect not only yourself but also reduce the chances of other people getting sick.  Immunizations don't give you any disease but may have some side effects.

Every fall you should get a flu shot unless there is a good reason for you to skip it.  It reduces the chance of you getting the flu substantially and can also reduce the severity of the flu.  The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends an annual flu vaccination for those 6 months and older.  Similarly, you should get Covid boosters annually or twice yearly if you are over 65.  If you haven't received the first 2 Covid immunizations you should consider getting them.
