Mental health

Many of us experience mental health issues in our loves.  If you are experiencing anxiety, mood issues, or having strange thoughts that you believe such as paranoia you should seek help from a psychiatrist. The causes of these phenomena may not be well understood but how to treat them is.  The doctor may prescribe medication to help and if so you should take the medication as prescribed unless you are having significant side effects in which case you should contact your psychiatrist and try another medication.  Going off of the medication without doctor approval can lead to adverse consequences.  If the medication helps keep taking it.  There is no shame in having mental health issues and taking medication for them.  If you had an issue with your kidneys and the doctor prescribed medication you would take it.  The same should be true for your brain.

As with any doctor you may want to get a recommendation for a great psychiatrist.

As a supplement to medication you may want to use cognitive therapy in which you write down the thoughts you are having and write down a more sensible thought to substitute for the unreasonable thought.  For example, with depression you may be thinking "Things are hopeless and won't get better."  Instead you could substitute "My situation will certainly improve and I will be happy.  There is always hope."
