Peace
Peace continues to elude us. My plan for peace includes 3 ingredients:
1. We need a sensible way to resolve conflicts. If we had a system for individuals that they could do whatever they wanted at any time with no accountability we would have chaos. For a collection of nations we need a body that can resolve conflicts between nations that all of the nations have agreed to honor in a way that is as fair as possible.
2. We need to take the money out of the system. We spend an enormous amount of money for defense. Imagine if we could use all of that money for constructive purposes instead. We need to compensate everyone who would lose money by the transition to peace. Those who are employed in the defense industry would receive 5 years pay for the loss of their jobs as well as assistance looking for another job. Stockholders or owners would receive payment for their shares. The world would be disarmed sensibly.
3. We need to encourage all people to be peaceful. The peace pledge is "I pledge to take good care of myself and all other people." If you buy/own a gun you are far more likely to use it to kill someone or yourself or in an unintentional shooting rather than for self defense.
All of us would eventually receive a peace dividend in the form of being safe as well as eventually receiving the financial benefits of not having to pay money for defense. It will take awhile to receive the financial benefit because we will first have to pay those employed in the defense industry as well as the stockholders but the potential benefit in the U.S is about $2500 per person per year.
